What are the 4 Healogics key results? ›

Understanding these factors can help people living with non-healing wounds and the people who care for them. These four factors are frequent wound care visits, early intervention of wounds where healing has stalled, engaging patients in their care, and using advanced care modalities, including debridement.

Clean area twice daily with soap and water, and apply a new bandage and ointment after cleaning. There is no need to use hydrogen peroxide or alcohol for cleaning. Continue this care until wound is fully healed. Deep or gaping wounds may need stitches or other wound care from a medical professional.

4 – Necrotic Tissue (Eschar): black, brown or tan tissue that adheres firmly to the wound bed or ulcer edges and may be either firmer or softer than surrounding skin.

A score from 1–5 (1 = very poor, 2 = poor, 3 = good, 4 = very good, and 5 = excellent) is given based on evaluating 4 categories: tissue color, response to palpation, granulation tissue, and incision margin.

To help the injured skin heal, use petroleum jelly to keep the wound moist. Petroleum jelly prevents the wound from drying out and forming a scab; wounds with scabs take longer to heal. This will also help prevent a scar from getting too large, deep or itchy.

Wounds heal faster if they are kept warm. Try to be quick when changing dressings. Exposing a wound to the open air can drop its temperature and may slow healing for a few hours. Don't use antiseptic creams, washes or sprays on a chronic wound.

Neosporin ointment can help treat minor cuts, abrasions, and burns and may help to speed up healing and ease the pain. However, proper wound care can do the same without needing a topical antibiotic, which has side effects and risks. Neosporin is generally safe but is not always necessary.

Score as a “4” if there is any necrotic tissue present. Score as a “3” if there is any amount of slough present and necrotic tissue is absent. Score as a “2” if the wound is clean and contains granulation tissue. A superficial wound that is reepithelializing is scored as a “1”.

The Wound Healing Index (WHI) [19] evaluates periodontal soft tissue wound healing with scores from 1 to 3 [19]. On this scale, a score of 1 indicates uneventful healing with the absence of gingival edema, erythema, suppuration, patient discomfort, and flap dehiscence.
